Although the TEC calendar commemorates the three great prelatial Marian martyrs in October (and Cuthbert, Bishop of Durham this day), this is the Feast of Holy Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop and Martyr (and Patron of this Monastery). Rowan Williams gave a beautiful and insightful sermon on the occasion this morning.
Perhaps, the best part is in which ++Rowan notes that Cranmer didn't seem to have the certainty required to kill but did manage to pluck up the certainty to die. I think this is perhaps the most precise definition of epistemic humility, when faith is a matter of life and death.

Indeed, a wonderful sermon that captures the struggle of ++Cranmer's life and work. It seems we're all ready to kill, but not to die?
