TV Priests I Dislike
Forget the Book of Daniel. The Episcopal priest of the moment is Brian Darling of ABC's Dirty, Sexy Money . I like the show. One of the characters bought his chauffeur a copy of Anabasis . Cool beans. But Brian Darling is a complete degenerate. My game during the last two episodes has been to determine whether he's an Episcopalian or not. He dresses in a style I only can call Anglo-Papist, but he apparently has a wife and daughters. He also has an illegitimate son who he's doing everything to avoid acknowledging. (Poor child. His mother is just as irresponsible.) I think he's supposed to be Rector of St. Thomas, Fifth Avenue (a church is shown in the first episode that looks quite familiar...).

Actually, the outside shot in the first show was St. Bartholomew's and had an Episcopal shield flag flying...
*Plus* either the actor or the character sets off my gaydar somethin' fierce, so the whole package is very bewildering.
Not to mention that people keep calling him "Reverend Darling," and you better believe that anyone who wears a canon's cassock of such ostentatious cut would insist on being called "Father."
Thanks, Derek, for knowing New York City churches better than I do. Yes, St. Bart's would make more sense. I can't imagine St. Thomas allowing filming.
So I see that I'm not the only one watching this show...
Didn't the title tell you everything? It's another evening Soap and all that implies. We're as pruriently voyeuristic as everyone else. C'mon, admit it :)
I second the Postulant's observation...a former Calvin Klein model btw.
Huh -- I had been totally oblivious and assumed (especially given the whole drama about his illegitimate child) that he was a Roman priest. I was thrown by the house cassock he was wearing at the funeral given that they hadn't called him "Monsignor", but just chalked it up to Hollywood getting religion wrong. Now I see it's just Hollywood getting religion wrong. :-)
Fr. Chris, there's an Episcopal priest in my diocese (the blogger of John 1:5 on the links), who dresses this way.
Postulant--I *so* thought the same thing. Actually--I was shocked when at "wife and kids" were mentioned at the end of the first episode. I just kinda figured he was gay...
Yeah, the red piping is a give away for those who know their tat...
sounds intriguing ... wonder if it'll come to Europe though?
