Trying to find data about the dust storm...and watching the model start up and start up and start up until it crashes.
But first a few news items:
I learned this morning that I was now part of something called the Canon Bell Society. Well, all right. But who was Canon Bell?
This old article in Time gave me some idea. Here's some more from Andrew Cusack.
I think Canon Bell might have some words to say about the Canon Bell Society, which basically consists of all who have donated between X and 2X bucks to a particular Episcopal organization. He also might laugh very loudly at the idea of the great Low Church parish of one of his Dioceses being a member of his Society. They, after all, still do Morning Prayer as their principal Sunday service.
On a possibly related note, I found this cri du coeur interesting.
I seem to hear this very often. What is to be done?
I also see that Scotist has been posting more on CWOB, including a post titled "Dear Caelius." I probably should wade through that.

The "cri du coeur" is interesting, I agree.
But again, I have to say that I can name quite a number of counter-examples of this in my own area. I think the old guard is on the way out now; the problem will be to hold on till that happens. I guess the thing to do is worry about Prayer Book revision right now, and do what we're doing by talking all these issues out as often as possible. I don't think the blogs are actually a negligible influence; people simply aren't aware of the great treasure of (hate to use this word) "orthodox" Christian theology.
But that's fixable. EFM is becoming more widespread, and there is a push (I think by our current PB) for more theological education in the church. So I think we're on the way; the Prayer Book thing is the real worry, IMO. Like he said, maybe it's too much to hope for two miracles in a row?
In politics, we'd hope for gridlock, I know. Think that would work in this case?
(I hate to say it, Caelius, but I get the impression that this is in particular a Cali issue. Even here on the very-lib Right Coast, it seems to me that we've got a pretty traditional take on things. More and moreso as time goes on, it seems to me. Well, except for the occasional Clown Mass. But that's so 70s at this point....
Anwway, here, the problem seems often to be a need for an infusion of "enthusiasm." But that's easier to work with.)
I guess so, bls. But I come from that Right Coast. I'm just coming up to two years in California. The only difference I see is in intensity.
Well, I'm wrong, then. In that case, what I see must be changes from past practice. After all, look at our little neighborhood: you, *C, Derek, LutherPunk, many others. And think of the online clergy we know; all are on the AC end of the scale. The parishes I know that are growing here are of this type, too: the old "traditional but welcoming" thing.
So something's going on, I think....
Oh, I think you're right. I just wonder how much leaven is required...
