Not For the Squeamish

Frightening on So Many Levels
(hat tip: Wannabe Anglican)

I'm not going comment much on this. It hits far too close to me. (And I will not say more. I was not the one harmed.) But a few months ago, I met the wife of the head of the Anglican Center at Rome. One of her jobs is to determine whether clergy who have committed offenses of this kind should again exercise ministry. She noted that she is usually the strongest voice against that kind of rehabilitation. It's not about mercy or forgiveness, it's about protecting the flock (paraphrase).

Wow...I mean...wow. Truly sad.

We had a couple of cases in our synod of sexual abuse and exploitation of the pastoral office. One of the clergy even ended up in jail. One of my friends was called to that parish next, and had a rough go of it. The people were so utterly hurt and disillusioned by it all that the parish almost folded.
