Paul Zahl Is An Alien Or a Hyper-Lutheran or a Desperate Dean or Something
The "F. Mulder" signature is a cute touch. I'm curious whether my present rector would let Zahl into the pulpit here. It would be the just thing to do.

Oh Dear God. First having family from both sides of the Catholic/Protestant divide in Eire, I can say that the behavior of many on all sides is significanlty NOT Christian. Does anyone remember that the presence of Protestants in Ireland has to do with England's colonial ambitions? Real Christian. Using the Scots to lord it over the Irish in the name of the Crown.
This sounds so much like a persecution complex. No one is persecuting Christians in the UK, unless as someone mentioned, having laws some Christians disagree with counts as persecution, of course, those laws do ameliorate real concerns like being blown up in gay bars in the Soho, at least partners now get the benefit of such a loss. Treat others as you would wish to be treated were you in their situation. It's something we all fail to get, sadly, but when it's positive reversal is named Christian, we're in trouble.
I am at a similarly odd angle in that particular debate. My mother's ancestors almost certainly were Ulster Protestants driven out of Ireland by the depression in the weaving industry in the 1790s. But when they came to the US, they converted to Roman Catholicism and intermarried with the Famine refugees. It's horrible seeing one set of distant cousins blow up the other set. And I've spent enough time in the Republic to know that I would be Fianna Fail in the Republic and SDLP in Ulster.
And then there is the whole business of the United Church of England and Ireland generally feeding only Anglicans during the Famine. That's not Christian. What a blot on the Anglican character. It's been a vicious cycle since the Earl of Desmond came. Forgive us our trespasses...
That said, I am known to be overly critical of the British Empire in fairly uncharitable ways...
I'm rambling, but I linked to the comments page because the T1:9 boards have become increasingly nasty. Rev. Dr Canon Harmon and the web elves better watch out. Their forums are starting to read like Virtuosity's.
